CLAT EXAM: Overview

The CLAT exam is a national-level entry-level exam for various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Law. Thousands of candidates sit for the exam. Law universities and various private institutions are participating in CLAT to give admission to the candidates. Moreover, they will accept CLAT scores to grant admission to courses in law. 

You should expect a total of 150 passage-based multiple choice based questions in the CLAT  exam. The difficulty level of each section will be notified immediately after the exam.

CLAT Exam: Section-Wise Questions and Weightage

Current Affairs and Legal Reasoning will hold a maximum weightage of 25% each. The CLAT exam will include maximum questions from these two sections. Logical reasoning and English Language will carry the second highest weightage in the CLAT exam. The quantitative technique sections will have the least weightage.

CLAT Exam: Difficulty Level

The CLAT exam will be divided into 5 sections. These sections include passages followed by a series of questions. The Consortium has disclosed the difficulty level of these passages. So, the expected difficulty level of the passages in each section is as follows:

CLAT Exam Analysis 2025: Section Wise

The probability of these speculations being true is pretty high. These speculations are made by studying the CLAT exam pattern well and the clat analysis of the previous year’s question paper.

English Language

The section will have 5-6 passages of around 200-400 words each. These passages will be of 12th-grade difficulty level. You can easily read each passage in 5-6 minutes. The passages will demand you to summarize, comprehend, infer, understand the fundamental concepts etc. Topics from which questions might appear are: 

Sentence Sequence Arrangement, Phrase Replacement, Synonyms & Antonyms, Tenses, Spotting Error, Fill in the blanks, Active and Passive Voice.

If you attempt around 25 questions, it will be considered a good attempt.

Current Affairs

The passages will be approximately 450 words. You will get around 7 passages to read and comprehend. They will demand awareness of current affairs. This section will include questions from Static GK, politics, Sports, famous personalities, prizes and awards, world affairs etc. Topics from which questions might appear are: 

National & International Affairs, Government Schemes, Science and Technology, Summits and Conferences, Foreign Affairs, Arts and Culture, Awards and Honors, Sports, Science and Technology.

If you manage to attempt 28 questions accurately, it will be considered a good attempt.

Legal Reasoning

The Legal Reasoning section will include passages of 450 words of the difficulty level of 12th grade. It assess Candidates’ aptitude for legal studies. Passages will state current or static news that is law related. Moreover, you might get questions on topics like Study of law, Legal GK, current affairs, International treaties, Court Decisions/Judgements etc. Attempting at least 34 questions will be considered a good attempt for this section.

Logical Reasoning

You can expect 6 passages in this section with 5 follow-up questions. The passages will be approximately 450 words. Also, this section assesses the verbal reasoning skills of the candidates. Topics includes like syllogism, directions, puzzles, cause & effect, clocks & calendars, logical sequencing etc.

Quantitative Technique

 You must prepare effectively on your 10th-grade concepts to attempt this section well. This section will assess the quantitative aptitude of the candidates. Most questions will be related to bar graphs, charts and other graphical representations. Apart from this, algebra, profit loss, measurement, speed & distance, work & time, and other elementary mathematics topics are essential.
